Convert image to JPG, PNG or WebP
Turn HEIC, PNG, WebP or GIF pictures into JPG, PNG or WebP.
Files never leave your device
How to Convert image
- Press Choose pictures, or drop them on the box above. Add more lets you add others.
- Under Convert to, pick JPG, PNG or WebP. A short note says what each one is good for.
- Press Convert, then Download (or Download all (ZIP) for several pictures).
JPG, PNG or WebP: which to choose
Pick the format the place you are sending the picture to accepts. If it accepts several, choose by what is in the picture:
Converting cannot add quality that was lost before. Turning a small, blurry JPG into PNG gives the same blurry picture in a bigger file. Each file is saved fresh, so converting a JPG to JPG again is not useful unless you want a fresh copy without its hidden details (see below).
- JPG: the smallest files for photos, and accepted almost everywhere. It is saved at quality 92 out of 100, so it looks almost the same to the eye. It cannot be see-through, so transparent areas become white.
- PNG: no further quality loss and keeps see-through areas. Best for logos, screenshots and pictures with text. Files are bigger, often much bigger for photos.
- WebP: small files for websites, and it keeps see-through areas. Some older programs and some upload forms cannot open it. It is offered only when your browser can save WebP pictures.
HEIC photos from an iPhone
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and some upload forms and Windows programs do not accept it. This tool can turn HEIC into JPG, but only in a browser that can read HEIC, such as Safari on iPhone, iPad or Mac. In other browsers you see a message saying the browser can’t open HEIC photos. Then you have two options: open this page in Safari, or change the iPhone camera to take JPG photos from now on (Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible).
The photo is saved the right way up, using the rotation the phone stored with it.
GIF, WebP and other pictures
The tool opens the common picture types your browser can read, including JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF. An animated GIF keeps only its first frame, as a still picture; a note reminds you of this when you add a GIF. WebP pictures saved from websites can be turned into JPG or PNG for programs that do not open WebP.
The tool saves only JPG, PNG and WebP. It cannot save HEIC, GIF or PDF. To put pictures into a PDF, use JPG to PDF.
What else changes
A converted picture is drawn again inside your browser and saved as a new file. That means the hidden details a camera stores in a photo are not carried over: the camera model, the date and time, and usually the GPS location where the photo was taken. Converted photos you share no longer carry that location data.
The width and height stay the same, except for pictures over about 16 megapixels, which are scaled down to that size because it is the most a browser can draw. The file keeps its name with the new ending, for example IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.jpg. Your original picture is not changed.
You can convert many pictures in one go; they all get the format you picked, and Download all (ZIP) saves them together. Unlike Compress image, this tool always gives you the converted file, even when it is bigger than the original, which is common when a photo becomes PNG. If size matters, convert to JPG, or run the result through Compress image.
Everything happens in your browser: your file is never uploaded to any server. You can check: once your file is open, turn on airplane mode — the tool still works.
Questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Open this page in Safari on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, choose the photos, keep JPG selected and press Convert. Other browsers cannot open HEIC photos, so they show a message instead.
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Choose the WebP pictures, pick JPG under Convert to and press Convert. Any see-through areas become white; pick PNG instead to keep them.
Why did my PNG get a white background as JPG?
JPG cannot store see-through areas, so they are filled with white. Keep the picture as PNG, or pick WebP if it is offered and the place you are sending it accepts WebP.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG keeps the picture exactly as it is now, but it cannot bring back detail the JPG already lost. The file just gets bigger.
Can I convert an animated GIF?
Only as a still picture: the first frame is kept and the animation is lost.
Can I convert pictures to PDF here?
Not with this tool. Use JPG to PDF, which puts one picture on each page of a single PDF.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Convert image runs in your browser on your own device. The file is never sent to our server or anyone else. Once your file is open you can even turn on airplane mode.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no limits on how many files, and no watermark is added to your file.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows or Linux. Very large files work best on a computer, because a phone browser has less memory.
