Crop PDF pages
Cut off margins or keep just part of each page.
Files never leave your device
How to Crop PDF
- Press Choose a PDF, or drop your file on the box above.
- Drag the box, or its corners, over the part of the page to keep. The arrows show the other pages.
- Under Crop, pick All pages or Only this page. Tick Remove the cut-off part for good if it must be deleted.
- Press Crop PDF, then Download.
How the box works
The box starts just inside the page edges. Drag inside it to move it, or drag a corner to change its size. Everything inside the box is kept; everything outside is cut off. Reset box puts it back where it started.
With All pages, the same box is used on every page, at the same place measured as a share of the page. On pages of different sizes it keeps the same part of each page, not the same number of centimetres. Use the arrows to look at a few pages before you crop, in case one page has its content in a different place.
With Only this page, only the page on screen is cropped. To crop different pages in different ways, crop one page, download, then open the new file and crop the next.
Hidden or removed for good
A normal crop hides the cut-off part; it does not delete it. The page shows only the box, but what was outside is still in the file, and some programs can still show it. That is fine for tidying margins, but not for hiding anything private.
Tick Remove the cut-off part for good to delete it. Every page of the file is then turned into a high-quality picture of what is inside the box, at up to about 220 pixels per inch. That has a cost: text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, links stop working, and the file can get bigger. This applies to every page, even when you crop only one.
If you need to black out a name, number or signature inside the page, use Redact PDF instead: it is made for removing private details.
Good uses, and what crop can’t do
- Trim the dark edges or table top around a phone scan.
- Keep just the receipt, ticket or ID card from a page that holds more.
- Cut wide white margins so the content reads larger on a phone screen.
- Crop cannot add margins or make a page bigger, and it does not resize pages to A4 or another paper size.
- If a page is sideways, turn it with Rotate PDF first, so the box matches how you read it.
Your file and your original
Cropping happens in your browser; the PDF is not uploaded to do it. You get a new file named with “-cropped”, and your original stays as it was. A PDF with a password or owner limits must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF and the right password. A digitally signed PDF needs a tick first, because cropping makes the signature show as invalid.
Everything happens in your browser: your file is never uploaded to any server. You can check: once your file is open, turn on airplane mode — the tool still works.
Questions
Does cropping delete the part I cut off?
Not by default: it is hidden but still in the file. Tick Remove the cut-off part for good to delete it; the pages then become pictures.
How do I remove white margins from a PDF?
Drag the box’s corners in until they sit just around the text, choose All pages, and press Crop PDF.
Can I crop just one page?
Yes. Go to that page with the arrows, set the box, choose Only this page, and press Crop PDF.
Does cropping make the PDF smaller?
A normal crop keeps the file about the same size, because the hidden part is still there. To make the file smaller, use Compress PDF.
Can I crop a PDF to A4 size?
No. Crop keeps the part of the page you choose; it does not set a paper size.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Crop PDF runs in your browser on your own device. The file is never sent to our server or anyone else. Once your file is open you can even turn on airplane mode.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no limits on how many files, and no watermark is added to your file.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows or Linux. Very large files work best on a computer, because a phone browser has less memory.
