Split PDF

Take out the pages you need, or split every page into its own PDF.

Files never leave your device

How to Split PDF

  1. Press Choose a PDF, or drop your file on the box above.
  2. Under How to split, pick Take out pages, Every page separately or Every few pages.
  3. Type the pages you want (like 1-3, 5, 8-), or how many pages go in each file.
  4. Press Split PDF, then Download, or Download all (ZIP) when there are several files.

Three ways to split

Pick the way that matches what you will do with the pages next. When you take out pages, the label above the page box tells you how many pages your file has.

How to type the pages

Separate pages with commas and use a dash for a range. “8-” means page 8 to the end, and “-4” means pages 1 to 4. Keep each range together: write 1-3, not 1 - 3, because a dash standing on its own is read as every page. Arabic digits and the Arabic comma work too.

The pages always come out in the file’s own order, and each page only once: “5, 1” gives page 1 then page 5. Numbers past the last page are left out. If none of the numbers you typed is a real page, the tool asks you to type pages between 1 and the last page.

There is no separate delete tool: to remove pages, take out the ones you want to keep. For a 12-page file without page 7, type 1-6, 8-.

What stays the same, and file sizes

Pages are copied, not redrawn, so text stays sharp and searchable and pictures keep their quality. Each page keeps its size and direction. The split happens on your device: the PDF is not uploaded to do it.

Each new file carries the fonts and pictures its own pages use. When pages share the same fonts or a logo, every part gets its own copy, so the parts together can add up to more than the original. Splitting does not compress; use Compress PDF on a part that is still too big.

When there is more than one file, Download all (ZIP) saves them together in one ZIP file, and the list below it lets you save any single file on its own.

If the PDF is refused

A PDF with a password, or with limits set by its owner, can’t be split until you remove them with Unlock PDF and the right password. A digitally signed PDF needs a tick first: the new files will show the signature as invalid, so keep the signed original.

Everything happens in your browser: your file is never uploaded to any server. You can check: once your file is open, turn on airplane mode — the tool still works.

Questions

How do I extract one page from a PDF?

Choose Take out pages and type just that page number, for example 4. You get a one-page PDF.

How do I split a PDF into separate pages?

Choose Every page separately and press Split PDF. Download all (ZIP) saves every page as its own PDF in one ZIP file.

How do I delete pages from a PDF?

Use Take out pages and type the pages you want to keep, leaving out the ones to delete. For example, 1-2, 4- removes page 3.

Can I split a PDF by file size, like into 2 MB parts?

No. It splits by pages only. Use Every few pages to make smaller parts, check their sizes in the list, and compress any part that is still too big.

Can I change the order of pages while splitting?

No. Pages come out in the order they have in the file. To put parts in a new order, split them into separate files and join them again with Merge PDF in the order you want.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Split PDF runs in your browser on your own device. The file is never sent to our server or anyone else. Once your file is open you can even turn on airplane mode.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no limits on how many files, and no watermark is added to your file.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows or Linux. Very large files work best on a computer, because a phone browser has less memory.
