How to Pages on one page

  1. Press Choose PDF files and pick one PDF, or several to join first. Put several files in order with the ↑ and ↓ arrows.
  2. Under Layout, choose Top to bottom, Side by side or Grid. Then choose how many pages go on each new page (All on one page, 2, 3 or 4), or the grid size, such as 2 × 2.
  3. Pick the Space between pages. Leave Draw a line between pages ticked for a dividing line, or untick it for none.
  4. Press Put pages together, then Download. Your original file is not changed.

What you get

With Top to bottom, the pages are placed one under another on a single tall page. With Side by side, they sit in a row on a single wide page. The new page is exactly as big as the pages put together, so it is not a Letter or A4 sheet. Two US Letter pages side by side with no space make a page of 17 × 11 inches; two A4 pages make 420 × 297 mm. Two Letter pages top to bottom make one page 8.5 inches wide and 22 inches tall.

Pages are placed as they are, not turned into pictures. Text stays sharp and can still be selected and searched, and scanned pages keep the quality they had. A page that was turned in the original comes out upright, the way you saw it. A page you trimmed with Crop PDF comes out trimmed, so cutting off wide white margins first makes the pages sit closer together.

Top to bottom, every page is scaled to the same width; side by side, to the same height. The widest (or tallest) page sets that size, so a small page next to a big one is enlarged to match. A narrow receipt stacked with a Letter page becomes as wide as the Letter page. If you want a small page to stay small, put it with pages of its own size.

All on one page, or a few per page

All on one page puts every page of the file on one new page. Choose 2, 3 or 4 to make several new pages instead: with 10 pages and 4 per new page, you get three new pages holding 4, 4 and 2. Each new page is sized to the pages on it, so the last one can be shorter or narrower than the others.

PDF readers do not accept a page longer than 200 inches (about 5 metres) on any side. Stacked top to bottom with no space, about 18 US Letter pages or 17 A4 pages fit at full size. If the result would be longer, the whole page is scaled down to fit, and the tool tells you so. Text stays sharp, but you will need to zoom in. For full-size pages, choose 2, 3 or 4 pages on each new page.

With Grid, pages fill equal cells in reading order, left to right and then down: choose 2 × 2, 2 × 3, 3 × 2, 3 × 3 or 4 × 4. Each cell is as big as the largest page in the group, so the new page is bigger than Letter or A4; when you print it, choose “Fit to page” and the printer shrinks it onto one sheet.

Space, lines and borders

Space between pages can be None, Small (about 4 mm, a sixth of an inch) or Large (about 13 mm, half an inch). Draw a line between pages adds a straight line across the seam between each pair of pages, in the middle of the space. Also a border around each page draws the same line around every page, which helps when white pages would otherwise blend into each other. Line colour is Black or Grey, and Line thickness is Thin or Thick.

For something that should read as one long page, choose None and untick the line. For separate items such as receipts or ID scans, a Small space with a thin grey line keeps them apart without looking heavy.

Several files, forms, links and locked files

If you choose more than one PDF, the files are first joined in the order of the list, then their pages are put together as one. Check the order before you press the button.

Filled-in form fields and comments that show on the page are drawn onto the page first, so what you see is kept. The fields can no longer be filled in, and comments are no longer separate comments you can open. Links stop working. If links or other items were left out, a note under the result says so.

A PDF with a password, or with limits set by its owner, is refused. Remove them first with Unlock PDF and the owner’s password; the tool never guesses passwords. A digitally signed PDF is changed only after you tick the box that appears, because the signature will then show as invalid. Your file is read and rebuilt in your browser and is never uploaded.

Everything happens in your browser: your file is never uploaded to any server. You can check: once your file is open, turn on airplane mode — the tool still works.

Questions

How do I put two PDF pages on one page?

Choose the PDF, pick Side by side or Top to bottom, choose 2 under Pages on each new page, and press Put pages together. Every pair of pages becomes one new page.

Can I combine several PDF files into a single page?

Yes. Choose all the files, put them in order with the arrows, and keep All on one page. The files are joined first, then every page goes on one page. Past 200 inches, the page is scaled down to fit.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes. Pages are placed as they are, not as pictures, so text can be selected, copied and searched as before. Text that was only a picture in a scan stays a picture.

Why did my result come out small?

The pages together were longer than the 200 inches PDF readers accept, so the page was scaled down to fit. Choose 2, 3 or 4 pages on each new page to keep them full size.

Can I print 4 pages per sheet on Letter or A4?

Yes. Choose Grid and 2 × 2, then print the new file with “Fit to page” (or “Shrink to fit”): each new page holds four of your pages and the printer scales it onto one Letter or A4 sheet. The PDF page itself is larger than Letter or A4, because the pages are kept at their own size.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Pages on one page runs in your browser on your own device. The file is never sent to our server or anyone else. Once your file is open you can even turn on airplane mode.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no limits on how many files, and no watermark is added to your file.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows or Linux. Very large files work best on a computer, because a phone browser has less memory.
